1/10/20 Clonmel+ Fairyhouse

Wednesday was a good prediction day as my selection Line Out won at Punchestown, the 4/1 favourite came home 1/2 a length in front of Cooldine Bog with Denain Des L'Aube 3rd.

The first day of a new month sees two meetings at Clonmel and Fairyhouse with two standout races. The first is at 3.10 at Clonmel where 7 go to post for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Captain Christy Rated Novive chase. Whatsyourstatus has one win from 3 runs this season that came at Tramore 2 weeks ago when he romped home by 14 lengths so don't discount him here. A Touch Of Oscar has also had one win this season his came at Navan in late September when he was victorious by 2 1/2 lengths his last run was just 2 days ago where he was 2nd in a novice chase at Punchestown so he has a big chance. Two others that should be looked at are Aforementioned who's best runs this year have been two seconds at Kilbeggan in July and at the same course at the beginning of August and Fred The Foot who's last win was at Musselburgh way back in January but he was a good second in a novice chase at Navan 12 days ago so may be a good outsider.

The other big race of the day is at Fairyhouse at 4.00 when 14 start the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden. 3 standout here,Jason The Millitant last ran in February this year when he won a close race at Naas beating Beacon Edge by a nose this is his flat debut this season and he looks like the one to beat. Silver Fox was second in his last race at Tipperary 17 days ago where he was 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner Lugnaquilla but having not raced a lot this year he is a leading contender here. The other one to keep an eye on is Thaleeq who was a very good third at Tipperary in the middle of this month where he challenged up until the final furlong so if he stays on here a bold showing is likely.

Big race predictions: Clonmel 3.10: 2: A Touch Of Oscar

Fairyhouse 4.00- 9: Silver Fox.

30/9/20 Punchestown

On Tuesday my big race prediction Could Be King came home 4th at 11/4 he had Fame And Acclaim, Free Solo and the winner the 5/2 favourite Keats in front of him.

Wednesday sees just one meeting take place a 7 race card at Punchestown and the big race is at 2.25 when 14 start the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Handicap 3 have a good chance, Line Out arrives here after a career best win at Ballinrobe in a 9 runner novice chase 24 days ago so he has a good chance in this one. Tiantu has had 2 wins from 4 runs this season his last was at Tramore 13 days ago where he stayed on well to beat Jack Holiday by a nose he goes up in trip to 2 miles 5 here and should be respected. Flirting Lesa will look to make it 2 wins in a row after she won a 10 runner handicap at Galway 23 days ago she was an easy 14 length winner and will be well up there here. Others to look out for include Scoir Mear,Macgiloney,Western Sea and Stylish Moment in what could be a close finish.

Big race prediction: 3: Line Out.

29/9/20 Cork + Punchestown

Monday was a good day for my prediction as Andalusa came 3rd at Roscommon the 11/8 favourite had Razoul and the 5/2 winner Benruben in front of her.

Tuesday is another busy day with meetings at Cork and Punchestown but the headline race is the 4.35 at Cork when 10 go to the start for the Navigation Stakes with 3 on the shortlist. Could Be King has 2 wins from 6 runs this year his last was at Leopardstown at the beginning of this month so he should be challenging again. Flight Risk's last win was on this course back in August 2019 since then his best run was a respectable 5th in a listed race at the Curragh in June this year but he has a good chance. Keats last victory was at Killarney in July but he was close to another win at Listowel a week ago losing out to Lady Wannabe by 1 3/4 lengths so has a good chance here . Two others to keep an eye on are Fame And Acclaim and Kiss For A Jewel as a close race is on for the €22,500 prize.

Big race prediction: 4.35- 1: Could Be King.

28/9/20 Roscommon

Sunday wasn't a great day for tips in the big races as both my selections came 4th. In the 2.00 at The Curragh No Speak Alexander was the 3/1 favourite but was beaten by Thinking Of You,Aunty Bridy and the 12/1 winner Elysium. While in the 4.50 Kastasa was the 2/1 favourite but had Mighty Blue,Barrington Court and the 5/2 winner Dawn Patrol in front of her.

The new racing week begins with a 7 race card at Roscommon and the feature is at 3.15 when 7 head to the start for the Ballymore Group Irish EBF Kilbegnet Novice Chase. Andalusia arrives after a career best win at Listowel 8 days ago where she easily won by a massive 16 lengths and is the one to beat here. Benruben has only raced twice this year winning at Killarney last time out and is to be respected. Play The Game won his debut over fences at Listowel a week ago so should be right up there again while Polished Steel was a winner last time out coming home 9 lengths in front at Galway but with a better class of field here we should see if he really is that good. This is a quality contest so any of the 4 I've mentioned could take the €37,500 first prize.

Big race selection:3.15: 7: Andalusia.

27/9/20 The Curragh

On Saturday both tips did very well in the big races. High Definition won by 3/4 of a length coming home the 9/5 favourite beating Monaasib while in the 3.50 Summerghand finished 3rd the 11/4 joint favourite had Forever In Dreams and the 10/1 winner Ventura Rebel in front of him.

The racing week comes to an end on Sunday with one meeting at the Curragh and two big races. The first is at 2.00 when 12 go to post for the Weld Park Stakes where 4 have a chance. No Speak Alexander has had one win from 3 runs this year that came at Roscommon back in July where she beat 5 others and her last run was a 3/4 of a length second to another of this races contenders Monday 15 days ago, the Aidan O'brien filly followed up that win with a disappointing run at Newmarket on Friday finishing 4th but she should be back to form here. Thinking Of You made her debut winning at Limerick 16 days ago coming from 5th a furlong out to take the victory by 1/2 a length. The other one to keep an eye on is Aunty Bridy who has run twice at the Curragh this year winning in June and finishing 6th in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at Irish Champions weekend so she shouldn't be discounted.

4.50 sees the other big race when 10 start the Loughbrown Stakes. Kastasa is the one to beat here her five race winning run came to an end 35 days ago at Naas when she finished 3rd but two of her wins have been at the Curragh including one over this race distance of 2 miles back in September last year so she should be right up there again. Dawn Patrol's last win was at Naas in July and was a creditable 6th in the St Leger at Doncaster 15 days ago. Barrington Court has won 3 times this year the last a Bellewstown in late August her last race was at Galway at the beginning of this month where she finished second 1 3/4 lengths behind Princess Zoe. The other one that should feature is Traisha who has one win from 3 runs this year that came at Killarney back in July she has followed that up with a third at Gowran Park and a second in the Stanerra Stakes at Naas in August. These 4 should make this a competitive race.

Race tips: 2pm- 8: No Speak Alexander  4.50- 4: Kastasa

26/9/20 Listowel + The Curragh

On Friday I didn't manage to pick any winners in the day's big races. The best finisher was The Reaping Race in the 2.40 at Listowel he came in 3rd with Not So Simple and the 18/1 winner Northern Emperor the only horses in front of him. In the 4.25 Crazywork De Vassy dropped away 3 fences from home and finished 8th while at Dundalk Vatican City was up with the leaders until 2 furlongs out and ended up finishing 7th.

Saturday is another busy day in Ireland,it's the final day of the harvest festival meeting at Listowel but all eyes will be on The Curragh with two feature races. The first is at 3.15 when 13 go to the start for the Alan Smurfit Memorial Beresford stakes where 3 standout.  High Definition made a winning debut over this course and race distance of one mile 35 days ago beating 11 others. Brazil is an Aidan O'Brien runner as the trainer attempts to win this race for the 10th year running his last race was also a win at The Curragh in late August when he just about beat Colour Sergeant. The other one to take a look at is Wuqood who won on his debut at Gowran Park 45 days ago.

The other big race is at 3.50 when 12 go to post for the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Renaissance Stakes. Summerghand last won at Goodwood at the beginning of August when he beat 26 others to land the Stewards Cup his step up to group 1 was too much when he finished 8th in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last time out but dropping down to a group 3 will help here. Urban Beat is the main threat arriving after being a good second in the Scarborough Stakes at Doncaster earlier this month so will be in the mix while Southern Horse was a good third at Cork 49 days ago and makes his debut for Jessica Harrington's Yard here. Others to look out for include Forever In Dreams and Ventura Rebel in a difficult race to call.

Big race tips: 3.15- 3: High Definition  3.50- 4: Summerghand.

25/9/20 Listowel + Dundalk

Thursday was the best day so far this week for tips. In the 4.30 Palm Beach won at 3/1 a length in front of Starlight Dream while in the 5.40 Darkened was 3rd with only the favourite Call Me Rocky and the 10/1 winner Ideal Pal in front of him.

Friday is a bumper day with 2 meetings and 3 feature races. Listowel has two of the big races the first of which is at 2.40 when 16 go to post for the Guinness Handicap. Courting Vickie has had 3 runs this year the last being at Tramore when she finished 6th 42 days ago but going up in trip from 2 miles to three should suit. The Reaping Race has had 1 win from 2 runs this season beating 11 others at Tipperary over this 3 mile distance 39 days ago so should feature here. Mary Of De Sorrows was a respectable 3rd at Wexford earlier this month so should be taken seriously and Not So Simple was a good second in his last race at Galway so shouldn't be overlooked.

The other big race at Listowel is at 4.25 when 11 head down to the start for the Southampton Goodwill Plate where 3 standout. Crazywork De Vassy has had 2 good recent runs winning at Killarney in August and an excellent second at Galway in early September so he should be right up there challenging here. Treacysenniscorthy was a winner over this course and distance back in September last year and since then has won four more times most recently at Leopardstown in February and will be in the mix while Ballyegan Hero has had three second place finishes this year his last at Killarney 36 days ago and moving back up in trip makes him respected. Others worth a look include Bay Hill,Minella Times and Gwencily Berbas.

The big race at Dundalk is at 6.45 when 14 start the Al Basti Equiworld,Dubai Diamond Stakes. 2020 Irish 2000 Guineas runner up Vatican City is the best horse in the race a third place in the Boomerang Mile at Leopardstown 13 days ago and a win on this course in October 2019 means he has to be taken seriously. Crossfirehurricane was 10th in the irish Derby in June but had four wins on the bounce before then his most recent was at The Curragh also in June this year. Simsar has won on this course and over this race distance while Bowerman was third at Leopardstown in mid August and his biggest win was the Irish Lincolnshire in June so you can see why this is a difficult race to call.

Big race tips: Listowel: 2.40- 7: The Reaping Race. 4.25- 10: Crazywork De Vassy

Dundalk:6.45- 12: Vatican City.

24/9/20 Listowel

Wednesday saw another race not going as I predicted as Plan Of Attack failed to finish the Guinness Kerry National. The race was won by Cabaret Queen at 6/1 Moyhenna was a very close second at 40/1 while the 11/2 favourite Doctor Duffy was third.

Thursday sees Listowel take centre stage again with 2 big races. At 4.30 12 go to post for the Behans Horseshoe Bar and Townhouse Maiden where 3 horses standout. Palm Beach made a promising debut when 4th at Tipperary 10 days ago and should improve. My Sister Sarah has been consistent in her last three races finishing second each time including at Galway 17 days ago but a drop down in trip from 2 miles 5 furlongs to 1 mile 4 should see a push for victory. The other one to look at is Star Of Juniper who was 7th over this distance at Bellewstown 28 days ago and should improve here.

The other big race of the day is at 5.40 when 14 head to the start for the Tote Ireland Handicap. Sea The Dawn looks like the one to beat and will hope to improve on his last run a 4th at Navan in late August but there are three others who will have something to say about that. Darkened was a winner at the Galway Festival in August and a good Fourth at Tipperary 10 days ago and going back up in trip should help. Call Me Rocky has had one win from three runs this year that came at Limerick in July but he was a creditable third at Galway at the beginning of August and has the chance of further improvement in this one and Lord Park should also challenge after coming second at Navan 2 weeks ago.

Big race tips: 4.30- 8: Palm Beach

5.40- 4:Darkened

Tuesday, September 22, 2020

23/9/20 Listowel

Another feature race didn't go as I thought it would on Tuesday with Njord finishing 4th. Flaming Moon,Keats and the 14/1 winner Lady Wannabe all finishing in front of the favourite.

Wednesday sees day 4 of Listowel's Harvest Festival and the Guinness Kerry National is the days big race at 4.30 and it is a strong field. Plan Of Attack was 4th at Cheltenham on his only run this year but was a well deserved winner at Aintree in October last year over the same 3 mile distance as this race, his stablemate Spyglass Hill has two wins from 5 runs this season his last being at Gowran Park back in February where he was a clear 6 lengths in front. Cabaret Queen was a good 33/1 third in the Galway Plate 56 days ago so shouldn't be overlooked while Ravenhill was beaten by a head in this race last year and will look to go one better this time. Other's worth a look include Three Musketeers, Doctor Duffy and Kupatana in what will be a highly competitive race.

Wednesday tip: 4.30- 13: Plan Of Attack.

Monday, September 21, 2020

22/9/20 Listowel

Monday's big races didn't quite go to form as both my tips were beaten. At Listowel Cerberus was 1 3/4 lengths back in fourth with Red Gerry,Anna Bunina and the 25/1 winner Politicise all in front of him while at Fairyhouse New Treasure was a 1 1/4 length second behind 16/1  winner Lady Princess.

Tuesday is day 3 of the Harvest Festival meeting at Listowel with one standout race. 11 start The Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes at 4.30,Three horses look like they will battle it out for the 1st prize. Njord arrives after a 5th placed finish at The Curragh in late August but 2 second place finishes at Galway put him right in contention,Kassaba has been excellent in all her three races a win at Naas in July followed up by a third at Killarney 71 days ago means she is in the mix. Lady Wannabe is the best placed outsider having last won in August 2019 at Killarney and finished 8th in the Justify Matron Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown 10 days ago in a strongly run race means she should be respected.

Big race tip: 4.30 Listowel: 1: Njord.

21/9/20 Listowel + Fairyhouse

After a poor day on Saturday we had a good day tips wise on Sunday at Listowel with 4 winners, a Second and three non runners.

A brand new week of action in Ireland begins with day 2 of the Harvest Festival meeting at Listowel where the Big race of the day is at 3.10 when 17 go to post for the Liam Healy memorial Lartigue Hurdle. Razoul was the 14/1 winner last year and the 2020 running sees a number of horses who could win the top prize. Isotope arrives having won at Wexford last time out,Cerberus was third at Navan in his last race and was sixth in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham back in March and should be close again here. Red Gerry is the other main threat his last outing was a victory in a 2 mile Hurdle at Punchestown earlier this month.

There are also 8 races at Fairyhouse on Monday with there big race The Ballyhane Blenheim Stakes taking place at 5.25. 8 contest the race with two standing out. New Treasure was a surprise 66/1 winner at The Curragh in late August and should be in the running here before he moves onto the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket next month. His main challenger should be Dense Star who was impressive when winning at Navan at the beginning of September. Both horses last wins were over 6 furlongs which is the distance of this race so it should be close.

With a total of 16 races there should be plenty for everyone.

Big race tips: Listowel 3.10- 1: Cerberus

Fairyhouse 5.25- 1: New Treasure.

14/9/20 Sligo + Tipperary

Today at The Curragh three of the four group one's on the final day of Irish Champions Weekend didn't go to form. In the Flying Five stakes Make A Challenge, Equilateral and Que Amoro were all beaten by Glass Slippers who came home at 9/2 with Make A Challenge the best of the three big horses in 5th. In the Moyglare Stud Stakes Shale got revenge on Pretty Gorgeous by beating the favourite by 3/4 of a length. The Vincent O'Brien national saw Master Of The Seas fail to make it three wins from three starts as Thunder Moon took the race coming in at 15/2 and in the Irish St Leger Sovereign didn't build on his Irish Derby win as Search For A Song won by 2 lengths at 7/1 with Fujaira Prince in second.

The racing doesn't stop with two more meetings on Monday.

Irish Champions weekend day 1

At Leopardstown two group one's were the highlight of the opening day of Irish champions weekend. In the Justify Matron stakes Peaceful and Fancy Blue were both beaten by 9\2 shot Champers Elysees,Peaceful ended up second and Fancy Blue was third. There was a surprise in the big race of the day the Irish champion Stakes where favourite Ghaiyyath finished 2nd behind Aidan O'Brien's Magical while the other big horse in the race Japan could only finish 5th.

Tomorrow at The Curragh there are four more group one's including the Irish St Leger at 4.40.

Friday, September 11, 2020

Irish champions weekend preview

Before we move onto the weekend there were two meetings on Friday, At Limerick I picked two winner's, a third, three Fourth's,a Fifth and a non runner while at Kilbeggan we had two winner's, two seconds, a third,a fourth, one non finisher and one non runner.

The next two days are the biggest in the Irish racing calendar with Irish champions weekend at Leopardstown on Saturday and The Curragh on Sunday. Saturday sees two group ones,at 3.10 Fancy Blue and Peaceful battle it out in the Justify Matron stakes a rerun of the Irish 1000 Guineas which Peaceful won by 2 lengths. Then at 4.10 comes the best race of the weekend when Ghaiyyath,Japan and Magical go to post in the Irish Champion stakes. Ghaiyyath is on fire this season having already won the international stakes at York, the Coronation Cup at Royal Ascot and the Coral- Eclipse while in the same international stakes Magical was a three length second. Japan lost out to Enable in the King George in his last outing so this is a difficult race to call.

On Sunday The Curragh hosts four group one's,At 3.10 Equilateral,Make A Challenge and Que Amoro go head to head in the Flying Five stakes with all of them having hopes in what should be a fast race. Make A Challenge will be looking for his third win in a row while Que Amoro makes his first appearance since being beaten by Battaash in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York. Equilateral meanwhile will look to improve on his last performance a fifth in the City Walls Stakes also at York a race where Que Amoro was 3rd. The Moyglare Stud Stakes at 3.40 is a family affair with the O'Brien's training all the front runners. Dad Aidan has won 5 of the last 10 runnings of this race and has Mother Earth as his best chance for number 6 but his sons will have something to say about that, Donnacha has Shale who was beaten by his brothers runner Pretty Gorgeous last time out and looks like he could be again here. Master of The Seas looks to make it three out of three this season after two impressive wins at Newmarket when he runs in the Vincent O'Brien National stakes at 4.10 with Lucky Vega and Battleground his closest challengers and at 4.40 last years Irish derby winner Sovereign attempts to bounce back after being beaten by Enable in his last outing  by landing the Irish St Leger although Ebor winner Fujarira Prince won't make it easy.

So with so many good horses and exciting races to come you can see why I won't be making any tips just sit back and enjoy the racing.
