It was a good day for the favourites on Saturday as all of them won. Gaillard Du Mesnil came home by 5 lengths in the opener,Chacun Pour Soi won the Dublin Chase for the second year romping home by 8 lengths while Energumere went 2 better easily winning by 10 lengths. In the main event the Irish Champion Hurdle Honeysuckle made it 10 wins in a row with a majestic 10 length victory.
It's another fantastic day at Leopardstown on Sunday with day 2 of the Dublin Racing Festival and four more Grade one's. The first is at 1.40 when 6 start the Tattersalls Ireland Spring Juvenile Hurdle. Quilixios should make it 4 wins in a row here after an easy 20 length victory at Down Royal in October but his main challenger is Youmdor who won his hurdles debut by 16 lengths at Gowran Park in November. These two should battle it out for the top spots with Ha D'or chasing them home. 2.10 sees 16 go to post for the Chanelle Pharma Novice Hurdle (also know as the Brave Inca.) This is all about one horse Appreciate It who made it 2 from 2 over hurdles in impressive fashion in the Grade 1 Future Champions Novice Hurdle here at Leopardstown 42 days ago and will take some stopping in this one. The biggest danger comes from stablemate Blue Lord who made a successful start over hurdles at Punchestown in November and finished a 6 1/2 length second in a Grade 1 at Naas last time out and dropping back to 2 miles gives him an excellent chance. At 3.10 9 begin the Flogas Novice Chase,Monkfish is the one to beat having picked up his 5th win in a row here in the Neville Hotels Novice Chase at the end of December he beat Latest Exhibition by 3 lengths and the Paul Nolan trained horse should be the main challenger again although Andy Dufresne and Asterion Forlonge shouldn't be overlooked. The main event comes at 3.40 with 5 runners in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Gup. Minella Indo was one of last seasons best staying novice chasers the highlight was a very good second in the RSA Chase at Cheltenham. 25 length and 7 1/2 length wins in his first two runs this season showed promise again so a fall here in the Savills Chase can be forgotten and he gets the nod. Last year's 1-2 Delta Work and Kemboy run again and will make their presence felt in a highly competitive race.
It's a second day to sit back and savour the action so I hope you enjoy it.
