23/10/21 Galway + Leopardstown

The week closed with differing results for my picks,at Sligo Churchstonewarrior won. The 2/1 shot ran well to sit 3rd 3 out. He challenged entering the straight and led at the last,he stayed on to easily beat Highland Sting by 6 lengths. It didn't go as well at Dundalk with Lady In France finishing 6th. The 8/1 chance was third early but made no impression from a furlong out. She weakened inside the final furlong with the 18/5 winner The Highway Rat coming home by 1 1/4 lengths.

The weekend gets underway with 7 races at Galway and 8 at Leopardstown, the main event at Galway is the 3.37 when 13 begin the W.B. Galvin & Co Handicap Hurdle. Buck Rogers was a very good second on his first run for a new yard at Limerick 2 weeks ago. He stuck to his task well there and is worth a chance to go one better here. Wearapinkribbon was a creditable 3rd in a hurdle at Wexford when last seen at the end of May,his stamina was tested that day so a drop in trip will suit on both his handicap hurdle debut and season return. The other to consider is Guiri he has one win from two runs this season that came at Punchestown in April and he was a respectable 6th on this course on his last outing 87 days ago so he definitely deserves respect.

Over at Leopardstown their feature comes at 5.10 when 13 line-up for the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes. Many in the field have potential but the pick goes to Duke De Sessa, he has one win from three runs this year that came at The Curragh in August. He returned there to tackle Group 1 company in the National Stakes 41 days ago but he could only finish 6th however a drop back down to a Group 3 is a plus and he should definitely progress giving him the nod. Piz Badile impressed when winning at Killarney on debut in July. He narrowly came home by a neck there and with improvement likely he can challenge. Anchorage picked up his career best win at Thurles 16 days ago,he forged clear to win by 4 lengths and going up in grade here makes him a player. There are two others worthy of a mention, Boundless Ocean was a promising 2nd on debut at The Curragh and was unlucky when 4th in a Group 3 on this course a week ago with another good showing likely here while Grenoble built on his 2nd place debut when winning at Nottingham 17 days ago. He showed guts and determination there with this useful prospect definitely having more to offer.

Big race predictions: Galway: 11: Buck Rogers  Leopardstown: 4: Duke De Sessa.
