Thursday was a good day for both my picks at Killarney, in the 5.35 Panama Red was 2nd. The 7/2 favourite was 3rd at halfway challenging from 2 out. She was 2nd a furlong from home keeping on at one pace inside the final furlong, Charterhouse won the race by 1 1/4 lengths. The 7.05 saw Away To Sea also finish 2nd. The 8/1 shot was at the rear but made headway from a furlong out. He kept on well inside the final furlong going 2nd in the closing stages. La Hacienda won coming home by a length.
A busy Friday sees 8 races at Killarney and 7 at Kilbeggan with two features.
Killarney 4.40: Larkin's Bar & Francie Sheahan's Bar Handicap Hurdle.
6: Purple Mountain: Picked up two wins from four runs last season and got back on track after 8 months off when 3rd behind another in this field Outback Flyer at Galway just over 3 weeks ago. That run will have set him up for this race and he can achieve his first handicap win.
Kilbeggan 7.20: Kiernan Steel Handicap Chase.
1: Siberian Prince: Last tasted victory in a chase at Limerick in May and then produced his career-best effort when 2nd by a neck in novice company at Limerick a month ago. He makes his handicap chase debut here and can go one better.
