The week got off to a mixed start for my picks at Ballinrobe, in the 5.00 Just Jacob was 5th. The 9/2 shot tracked the leaders and was 3rd at halfway. He made a mistake 3 out and made no impression soon after. He had no extra on the run-in keeping on at one pace, upfront Sheishybrid won by an easy 7 1/2 lengths. The 7.00 saw Cape Gentleman finish 2nd. The 1/3 favourite tracked the leader sitting 2nd at halfway. He made no impression on the winner before the last allowing Fan De Blues to come home by 7 lengths.
There are seven races at Bellewstown on Tuesday where two stand out.
5.15: Connolly's Red Mills Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle.
3: Ocean Of Mercy: Hasn't shown his best in bumpers on his last two starts but had some useful form before that. He is an interesting contender upped in trip for this his hurdles debut and should make the successful switch giving him the vote.
6.45: Bective Stud Mullacurry Handicap Hurdle.
4: Telecon: A promising horse who after making an impressive winning hurdles debut at Ballinrobe in July finished 8th behind Flaming Moon in a listed race at Galway a month ago. He was 3rd but after a bad mistake 2 out which nearly brought him down his challenge was over. He still has potential and is well worth another chance on his handicap debut.
