7/6/24 Fairyhouse & Clonmel

An excellent Thursday at Leopardstown saw both my picks win. In the King George V Cup Portland sat 3rd at halfway leading narrowly a furlong out, the 13/8 favourite was strongly pressed in the final 100 yards but kept on well close to home beating Kinesiology by a neck. In the later race Tarawa led after 3 furlongs asserting herself from a furlong out, the 2/1 favourite stayed on beating Cairo by 2 1/4 lengths.

Friday sees 8 races at Fairyhouse and 7 at Clonmel with 2 highlights.

Fairyhouse 5.40: Tote Handicap.

4: Desert Haven: A course and distance winner who has one victory from 2 runs this year, that came at Leopardstown in April where he led for a second time entering the straight coming home by 1 1/2 lengths. He was a good second at Naas when last seen 19 days ago and dropping back down in trip he can win again here.

Clonmel 6.50: Bulmers Original Novice Chase.

1: Ashdale Bob: A smart hurdler who was a decent second at Punchestown 36 days ago, he travelled well in the closing stages taking 2nd after the last. He switches from hurdles back to fences here and looking at the field he should have too much for his rivals.
