An excellent Saturday at Leopardstown saw both my picks win. Fallen Angel was 2nd early making headway to dispute the lead a furlong out, the 9/4 favourite led in the closing stages beating Exactly by 1/2 a length. In the Irish Champion Stakes Delacroix improved entering the straight travelling well to lead 2 out, the 2/1 favourite was soon clear comfortably beating Anmaat by 3/4 of a length.
The Curragh stages the final day of the Irish Champions Festival on Sunday were on an 8 race card 4 group one’s top the bill.
3.15:Bar One Racing Flying Five Stakes (Group 1.)
9: Asfoora: A good horse who bounced back to win the Nunthorpe at York 23 days ago. She challenged from 2 out moving to the front soon after and coming home by 1 1/4 lengths. She was well on top at the finish there and if in the same form she will be hard to beat here.
4.25: Comer Group International Irish St Leger (Group 1.)
5: Illinois: An excellent horse who won the group 3 Ormonde at Chester on return in May. His other runs this year have been 2nd place finishes at Royal Ascot and in the Goodwood Cup but with cheekpieces on for the 1st time he is the one to beat here.
In the days other group one’s my picks are:
Moyglare Stud Stakes- 7: Venetian Sun.
Vincent O'Brien National Stakes- 2: Gstaad.
