Out of my 3 picks Friday's best performance came from Mutasarref who won, the 6/5 favourite travelled well and disputed the lead from 1 1/2 furlongs out. He led soon after keeping on strongly in the final furlong beating Cigamia by 3 lengths. In the race at Tramore Popong was 2nd. The 6/4 favourite was hampered 2 out but was soon left in 2nd after two runners fell. She stayed on well but didn't trouble the winner Ferdia who came home by 2 1/2 lengths. In the other Group race at Cork Perotan was 4th.
The weekend begins with 8 races at The Curragh and 7 at Tramore with 3 main events.
The Curragh 4.05: Fitzdares Royal Whip Stakes (Group 3)
4: Luxembourg: A promising horse who enhanced his reputation when 3rd behind Coroebus in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket when last seen. The step up in trip here should suit and he is the one to beat.
The Curragh 4.40: Comer Group International Irish St Leger Trial Stakes (Group 3)
4: Search For A Song: A Two-time Irish Leger winner who hasn't been seen at her very best in her 3 outings this season. However she normally saves her best form for the second half of the season so she can bounce back here setting herself up for another Leger tilt.
Tramore 7.30: Brennan's Pharmacy Handicap.
3: Stellium: A course winner in his career who was a good second behind Sionnach Eile at Ballinrobe 26 days ago. That performance and the fact he goes up in trip gives him the nod here.
