On Thursday two of my picks won. At Wexford Small Town Hero was 2nd at halfway and despite not being fluent from 3 out the 9/2 joint favourite recovered keeping on well after the last leading in the final 50 yards beating Close Enough by 1/2 a length. Over at Leopardstown Composing led early going clear from 2 out. The 4/9 favourite stayed on strongly easily beating Skydance by 3 1/4 lengths. In the other race Flushing Meadows was 2nd. The 30/100 favourite was 2nd at halfway but made no impression from a furlong out allowing North Coast to win by 6 lengths.
On Friday there are 7 races at Cork and 8 at Kilbeggan with 2 main events.
Cork 6.12: Doneraile Handicap.
4: Harry's Hill: A horse who has run well this year culminating with a win at Tipperary 23 days ago. He challenged from a furlong out leading in the final 100 yards and coming home by a length. He should continue his good form here and pick up a 10th career win.
Kilbeggan 6.30: Tote Handicap Hurdle.
5: Swelltime: A course winner who improved on recent runs when tasting victory at Killarney just 8 days ago. He led for a second time 2 out asserting himself before the last and easily winning by 4 1/2 lengths. Despite a weight rise he can build on that performance here and has an excellent chance to follow up.
