An excellent Thursday at Leopardstown saw both my picks win. In the King George V Cup Zahrann recovered from a poor start making headway to lead narrowly in the final 150 yards. The 5/2 shot asserted himself in the closing stages comfortably coming home by 2 1/4 lengths. In the other race Green Impact led early coming under pressure a furlong out. The 11/8 favourite kept on well in the closing stages beating Currawood by 1/2 a length.
A Friday double header sees 8 races at Fairyhouse and 7 at Clonmel with 2 highlights.
Fairyhouse 5.50: Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race.
1: King Cuan: A lightly-raced horse who has won 3 times in his career. He was a respectable 5th behind Lady With The Lamp in a listed race at Cork on his return 61 days ago where he made progress from a furlong out but had no extra in the final 150 yards. His stable is having a good spell and he is a big player who can resume winning ways here.
Clonmel 6.45: Bulmers Original Handicap Hurdle.
2: Popova: A useful hurdler who returned after 7 months off to finish a creditable 2nd behind the reopposing My Gaffer at Killarney 25 days ago. She was 3rd 2 out disputing the lead at the last. Despite a slight mistake she kept on well on the run-in but was unable to reach the winner. She can build on that here and reverse the placings.
