1/2/23 Dundalk

Our winner at Limerick on Tuesday was Captain Cody, the 5/2 shot led from 4 out asserting himself approaching the final furlong. He kept on well comfortably beating Blizzard Of Oz by 6 1/2 lengths. In the earlier race Buddy One was 2nd, the 13/8 favourite tracked the leaders sitting 3rd at halfway. He improved to 2nd five out but made no impression from 2 out keeping on at the same pace this allowed Carbon King to easily win by 12 lengths.

We start a new month with 8 races at Dundalk on Wednesday where 2 stand out.

2.17: Book Online At DundalkStadium.com Maiden.

10: Cooler: A promising horse who improved on his debut when 3rd on this course 51 days ago although that run can be slightly overlooked due to the fact that there was poor visibility that day. He goes significantly up in trip here and tops the shortlist for a trainer who took this race 12 months ago.

4.37: Dundalk Winter Series Leading Trainer & Jockey Championship Handicap.

1: Hodd's Girl: A 6-time course winner who picked up her career best here 12 days ago. She led in the final 200 yards going clear to win by 2 1/2 lengths. Her stable are having a good spell and with the best form on show she can follow up and make it 7.

31/1/23 Limerick

A good Monday at Punchestown saw both my picks win although one was more dramatic that was Princess Zoe. The 5/4 shot led after the 3rd and despite being briefly challenged 2 out she soon went clear. She had a reduced lead after a mistake at the last and was strongly pressed on the run-in being joined on the line by Ladybank and the two dead heated. It was a little bit more straightforward in the 3.07 where Sa Fureur was 3rd after the 6th. The 9/4 favourite made progress challenging 2 out. He led before the last and despite being passed he regained a narrow lead in the final 100 yards keeping on best to beat La Malmason by 1/2 a length.

January comes to a close on Tuesday with 8 races at Limerick and 2 highlights.

12.57: Become A Member At Limerick Handicap Hurdle.

1: Buddy One: A horse with promise who picked up a career best win in a novice hurdle at Fairyhouse just 3 days ago. He stayed on well on the run-in to come home by 3 1/4 lengths and with more improvement expected he tops the shortlist on this his handicap hurdle debut.

3.52: Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction (Pro/Am) Flat Race.

4: Captain Cody: Made a promising start when second in a bumper on debut at Punchestown 43 days ago. He ran well in the closing stages only going down by 1/2 a length. With further progress on the cards and his stable having a good spell he is a big player who can go one better here.

30/1/23 Punchestown

Sunday's winner was Echoes In Rain, the 5/6 favourite made progress from the 2nd sitting 3rd 3 out. She improved to lead before the last asserting herself in the closing stages, she kept on well easily beating Cash Back by 10 lengths. In the days opener Chemical Energy was 4th, the 11/4 chance was in midfield but a mistake at the 10th saw him drop to the rear. He recovered to sit 2nd 2 out but another mistake before the last ended his challenge, upfront Thedevilscoachman beat Ramillies by a neck.

The week gets underway with 7 races at Punchestown on Monday with 2 main events.

1.57: Bar One Racing 'Bet 10 Get 50 Sign Up Offer' Mares Maiden Hurdle.

6: Princess Zoe: A good winner on the flat who was last seen finishing 4th behind Iresine in the Group 1 Prix Royal Oak at Longchamp back in October. She makes her hurdles debut here and should outclass the rest of this field if she takes to this sphere.

3.07: Bar One Racing 'Ante Post Betting At Cheltenham' Rated Novice Hurdle.

1: Sa Fureur: A lightly-raced horse who picked up his first career win in a maiden hurdle on this course on his last outing 2 weeks ago. He was clear at the final obstacle staying on well to come home by 4 3/4 lengths. This is a stiffer test but the step up in trip should suit and with improvement likely he can follow up.

29/1/23 Naas

On Saturday at Fairyhouse the best performance came from Halka Du Tabert who was 3rd, the 15/8 shot led early but faced a challenge entering the straight. She was passed after the last having no extra inside the final furlong, Ashroe Diamond won the race beating Jetara by 1 1/4 lengths. The other contest saw Better Times Ahead finish a poor 8th. The 4/1 joint favourite was never really in touch making no impression from 2 out, Shakeytry won by 3/4 of a length.

Seven races take place at Naas on Sunday where two big graded contests top the bill.

12.57: Finaly Ford At Naas Novice Chase (Grade 3)

1: Chemical Energy: A smart chaser who has 2 wins from 2 runs this season. He was upped in trip when an easy winner at Cheltenham on his last outing 99 days ago and with more progress expected he can complete the hat-trick here.

2.42: Nass Racecourse Business Club Limestone Lad Hurdle (Grade 3)

6: Echoes In Rain: A good horse who has been a course and distance winner in her career. She needs to bounce back after falling 2 out in the Hatton’s Grace at Fairyhouse when last seen 56 days ago but this solid performer is more than capable of doing that and she can get back to winning ways here.

28/1/23 Fairyhouse

At Dundalk on Friday Anann was 3rd, the 5/1 shot recovered from a poor start to sit 3rd at halfway. She challenged from 2 out but made no impression in the closing stages keeping on at the same pace allowing Song For Whoever to win by 3 1/4 lengths. In the other race Pub Talk was 6th, the 7/1 chance was at the rear early but was able to dispute the lead from 1 1/2 furlongs out. He was passed in the final 100 yards having no extra close to home, Malacanne won by 3/4 of a length.

A busy weekend begins with 7 races at Fairyhouse on Saturday where they have 2 features.

1.01: Jump Into January Handicap Chase.

8: Better Times Ahead: A progressive horse who wasn’t disgraced when 8th in a novice chase at Punchestown on his last outing 40 days ago. He makes his handicap chase debut here and is well worth another chance off a handy-looking mark.

2.11: Awardsandgifts.ie Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle (Grade 3)

3: Halka Du Tabert: A promising individual who made it 2 from 2 when winning on hurdles debut at Naas 39 days ago. She went clear after the last comfortably coming home by 11 lengths. With improvement likely from this unbeaten 5-y-o she should take the step up in class here in her stride and complete the hat-trick.

27/1/23 Dundalk

The best performance at Gowran Park on Thursday came from Teahupoo who won, the 4/11 favourite was 5th at halfway improving to lead before 2 out. He was clear before the last comfortably beating Summerville Boy by 15 lengths. In the Goffs Thyestes Gabbys Cross was 8th, the 7/1 shot made no impression after a mistake 3 out keeping on at one pace. Carefully Selected won the race beating Dunboyne by a short head.

Another week draws to a close with 7 races at Dundalk on Friday night where we have 2 highlights.

5.30: Book Online At DundalkStadium.com Handicap.

2: Pub Talk: A course winner who's latest victory was here in November. He was a good 2nd when he returned here 3 weeks ago and despite going significantly back up in trip he has the best form on show here and should be in the mix again making him the pick.

7.00: Join Us On Instagram At dundalk_stadium Race.

4: Anann: A decent horse who picked up her first career win in a maiden on this course 21 days ago. She led after 2 furlongs and despite having a reduced advantage in the closing stages she just held on to come home by 1/2 a length. Her stable is in good form so another bold bid is likely and she should follow up.

26/1/23 Gowran Park

A decent Wednesday at Fairyhouse saw both my picks finish 2nd, in the 1.23 Sweet Will challenged from 3 out disputing the lead at the next. The 85/40 favourite made a slight mistake soon after keeping on at the same pace on the run-in. He made no impression in the final 100 yards allowing The Tack Room to win by 3/4 of a length. In the other race Spanish Harlem tracked the leader but made a mistake at the 6th. The 1/1 shot made no impression before the last having no extra on the run-in leaving Three Card Brag to comfortably win by 12 lengths.

A big day at Gowran Park on Thursday sees a 7 race card with 2 standing out.

2.15: John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle (Grade 2)

1: Teahupoo: A high-class hurdler who took his form to the next level when picking up a career best win in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on his return 53 days ago. He kept on well to beat Klassical Dream by a neck and despite going up in trip he should take all the beating and follow up here.

2.50: Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase (Grade A)

5: Gabbys Cross: Picked up his latest win at Galway back in July and looked good on his return after 3 months off when 6th at Leopardstown 30 days ago. With his stable in good form and Rachael Blackmore on board he should go well here off a handy-looking mark and get back to winning ways.

25/1/23 Fairyhouse

An excellent Tuesday at Down Royal saw both my picks win, in the 2.25 Limerick Lace was 3rd early going 2nd from the 6th. The 8/11 favourite travelled well to lead from 2 out, she stayed on easily pulling away on the run-in to beat Irish Blaze by 8 lengths. In the later race Angels Dawn ran well to dispute the lead from 2 out. He was passed soon after sitting 2nd at the last, he rallied and regained the lead in the final strides beating Ballykeel by 1/2 a length.

The meeting that should have taken place at Fairyhouse last Thursday now happens on Wednesday where on a 7 race card there are 2 main events.

1.23: Follow Fairyhouse On Social Media Handicap Chase.

7: Sweet Will: A promising type who achieved his career best win in a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham 75 days ago. That was his 2nd victory over hurdles in the space of 3 days and having had plenty of time to recover he should be hard to beat returning to this sphere as he looks for a hat-trick.

1.53: Easter Festival 8-10 April Novice Hurdle.

2: Spanish Harlem: A useful hurdler who won his only start in France before transferring to Willie Mullins and running well on Irish debut when 3rd at Gowran Park 60 days ago. He will have learnt from that promising run and with his yard having a good spell and improvement expected he can build on that here picking up his first Irish win.

24/1/23 Down Royal

After a day off we start the Irish racing week with 7 races at Down Royal on Tuesday and 2 features.

2.25: Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Novice Chase.

1: Limerick Lace: A useful chaser who was a very good second at Limerick when last seen 28 days ago. Despite finding little in the closing stages she did pull away from the rest of the field and that shows she can make it 3rd time lucky over fences here and she is the one to beat.

3.35: Madri Excepcional Handicap Chase.

2: Angels Dawn: Was a creditable 2nd at Punchestown on his last outing 3 weeks ago although he would have won but for a mistake at the last. Despite going up 4lb since he has been progressing well recently and he can definitely make amends here going one better.

That lead was extended from 2 out and she was never troubled very easily beating Brides Hill by 19 lengths. In the other Grade 2 Chacun Pour Soi was 3rd, the 9/4 shot was 4th at halfway disputing the lead from 2 out. He led narrowly soon after but was passed entering the straight. 22/1/23 Thurles

On a poor Saturday at Navan Drop The Anchor was 7th, the 10/1 shot didn't travel well dropping to the rear after a slight mistake at the 5th. He marginally improved from 2 out keeping on at one pace while upfront Hms Seahorse beat Felix Desjy by 2 1/4 lengths. In the other race Spirit Of Legend failed to finish. 1.10: Coolmore N.H. Sires Mogul Irish EBF Mares Novice Chase (Grade 2)

1: Allegorie De Vassy: A promising horse who arrives here unbeaten for trainer Willie Mullins after easily winning on fences debut in a Grade 2 at Limerick over christmas. She beat the reopposing Malina Girl by 19 lengths and is very hard to look past here as she looks for a 4-timer.

1.40: Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase (Grade 2)

1: Chacun Pour Soi: A top-class chaser who was a bit below form when 3rd behind Blue Lord in the Paddy's Rewards Club Chase at Leopardstown 26 days ago. He may not be the force he once was but he has a good chance here and should have enough to go close as he attempts to get back on track and pick up his 9th career win.

21/1/23 Navan

On Friday at Dundalk Jered Maddox was 2nd, the 100/30 shot was 5th at halfway improving from 2 out. He challenged a furlong from the finish keeping on in the closing stages just failing to reach the winner Stardayz who came home by a short head. In the other race Markievicz was a poor 9th, the 9/1 shot was always towards the rear making no impression inside the final furlong. Harbanaker won the contest beating French Rescue by 1/2 a length.

If a 7.30am inspection is passed then a top-class weekend will begin with 7 races at Navan on Saturday with 2 standing out.

12.00: Welcome Back To Navan Racecourse Rated Novice Hurdle.

4: Spirit Of Legend: Won by a good 1 1/4 lengths on hurdles debut here in November before finishing 2nd on his first handicap start at Leopardstown last month. That useful performance shows there is definitely more to come and that he can quickly get back to winning ways.

1.07: Navan Handicap Hurdle (Grade B)

4: Drop The Anchor: Was much improved when winning on handicap debut at Naas 76 days ago. He beat some useful horses that day including My Mate Mozzie and Powerful Aggie keeping on well in the closing stages. 2: Jered Maddox: A 4-time course winner who had 3 victory’s from 9 runs last year. He was a good third behind another in this field Dutch Glory here a fortnight ago but has a better draw this time. He tops the shortlist and can reverse the placings as he looks to get back to winning ways.

17/1/23 Clonmel

A good day at Punchestown on Monday saw Letsbeclearaboutit win, the 2/7 favourite made all the running and despite not being fluent at the 10th he went clear entering the straight. He stayed on strongly and wasn't troubled easily beating Rowdy Romeo by 22 lengths. In the days other contest Calico was 3rd, the 5/6 favourite ran well leading from 4 out. She asserted herself soon after but a mistake at the last saw her have a reduced advantage. 1.50: Munster Hurdle.

4: Gaelic Warrior: Was unlucky not to win the Fred Winter on his yard debut at last year’s Cheltenham Festival only losing to Brazil by a short head. He was a very easy 86 length winner on his return at Tramore last month and although this looks a harder race this exciting prospect should be difficult to beat again.

3.25: Jossestown Handicap Chase.

2: Bonnie Kellie: A decent horse who impressed when picking up her career best win at Limerick 22 days ago. She led from 2 out keeping on well to come home by 7 lengths. Despite a weight rise further improvement is expected and she tops the shortlist giving her the nod to follow up.

18: Galico: A decent horse who has impressed recently including when 2nd on this course when last seen on New Year’s Eve. She was unlucky that day losing the lead in the final 150 yards but she definitely has the ability to win a race like this so she gets the vote to come out on top.

6: Letsbeclearaboutit: A promising runner who took his form to new heights when 2nd to Favori De Champdou in a Grade 2 at Limerick 3 weeks ago. Despite being 4 1/4 lengths behind he is hard to look past here back in maiden company making him the one to beat.

15/1/23 Punchestown

A poor Saturday at Fairyhouse saw Cayd Boy finish 5th, the 85/40 favourite was in touch but wasn't fluent from two out. 9: Jack In The Box: A promising individual who wears a tongue strap for the 1st time here. He was third behind another in this field Innovated at Down Royal on fences debut 19 days ago. This slightly longer trip should suit giving him the nod to improve on that decent opener in this sphere.

4/1/23 Dundalk

After two days rest Irish racing finally begins it's week with 8 races at Dundalk on Wednesday where there are two highlights.

1.40: Happy New Year From Dundalk Stadium Handicap.

3: Jawwaal: Despite it being 12 runs since he won and finishing at the back on his last outing at York 89 days ago this is his first race for Joseph O’Brien and he starts off a handy-looking mark. He holds good claims for his new yard and can capitalise on those here.

3.10: Wednesday Racing At Dundalk Maiden.

9: Vikki Wall: A good horse who showed there was plenty to work with when 3rd over course and distance on debut in November. She stayed on well in the final furlong having picked her way through the field. She has since switched yards and with improvement expected she can confirm the promise shown and open her account.
