1/8/24 Galway

A terrible Wednesday at Galway saw Perceval Legallois finish 8th in a race won by Pinkerton who beat Duffle Coat by 1/2 a length while it was worse in the earlier race where Enfranchise was 9th with Champella winning beating Miss Fourie by 2 lengths.

Day 4 of the Galway Summer Festival takes place on Thursday with 8 races and 2 features.

2.45: Guinness Open Gate Brewery Novice Chase (Grade 3)

4: Ashdale Bob: A good winner over hurdles who didn't need to improve to taste victory in this sphere at Kilbeggan 45 days ago. He was 4th four out leading narrowly at the last, he ran on well coming home by 3 1/4 lengths. A repeat of that performance should be enough to follow up here.

5.05: Guinness Galway Hurdle Handicap (Grade 3)

4: My Mate Mozzie: A decent horse who was an excellent 3rd in a handicap at Royal Ascot when last seen 44 days ago. He was 3rd in this race last year and on form he has a good chance to go two better here.

31/7/24 Galway

On a poor Tuesday at Galway the best came from Gaucher who was 4th. The 6/4 favourite was 2nd approaching halfway challenging briefly 4 out, he slipped to 3rd soon after making no impression and dropping to 4th while upfront Gale Mahler won beating Le Coq Hardi by an easy 10 lengths. In the later race Emporio was 7th with Mexicali Rose taking the contest beating Norwalk Havoc by a neck.

5: Enfranchise: A decent horse who won the listed Vintage Tipple Stakes at Gowran Park on her return in May. She ran well on this course on Monday finishing fifth in a handicap and switching back to hurdles will suit. If this hasn't come too soon then she should win here on handicap hurdle debut.

7.10: Tote Galway Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3)

15: Perceval Legallois: A course winner in his career who was an excellent 2nd at Punchestown when last seen 89 days ago. He was well clear of the rest there and despite a weight rise of 5lb he can go one better here and just gets the vote.

30/7/24 Galway

The best at Galway on Monday was from Mordor who finished 2nd. The 15/2 shot was 7th two out improving to sit 4th after the last, he kept on well to go 2nd in the final 100 yards but he made no impression on the winner Feud who came home by 3 1/2 lengths. In the other race Alphonse Le Grande was 11th with the contest going to Sirius who beat Baltic Bird by 3 1/2 lengths.

It's day 2 at Galway on Tuesday where on a 7 race card there are 2 highlights.

4.50: Colm Quinn BMW Novice Hurdle.

3: Gaucher: A good horse on the flat who has impressed since switching to hurdles opening his account at Punchestown 52 days ago. He led after the 2nd going clear entering the straight, he stayed on strongly very easily coming home by 15 lengths. Further improvement is likely and despite going up in grade he can win again here.

7.10: Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap.

7: Emporio: Ran better than the result suggests when 7th at Fairyhouse 20 days ago. That was his return after 16 months off and he was travelling well sitting 3rd a furlong out, he didn't get a clear run in the final 150 yards dropping to 7th. He should build on that here and definitely has the ability to pick up a 3rd career win.

2: Bedtime Story: A course and distance winner on debut who followed up in impressive fashion taking the Chesham at Royal Ascot last time, she pulled clear entering the closing stages beating Pentle Bay by an easy 9 1/2 lengths. She looks a top prospect and should make it 3 from 3 here.

He led narrowly from 3 out asserting himself soon after, despite having a reduced advantage at the last he kept on well on the run-in coming home by 1 3/4 lengths. He has to contend with a weight rise here but that shouldn't stop him following up.

7.23: Sweeney Oil Handicap Hurdle (Div 1)

He goes significantly up in trip here and can continue his decent form by returning to winning ways.

21/7/24 The Curragh

A good Saturday at The Curragh saw two of my picks win.  8 more races take place at The Curragh on Sunday with 3 topping the bill.

2.10: Jebel Ali Racecourse And Stables Anglesey Stakes (Group 3)

10: Babouche: A decent-looking horse who impressed when winning on debut at Cork 37 days ago. She led from 1 1/2 out asserting herself soon after, she stayed on strongly in the final furlong coming home by 5 lengths. This exciting prospect should take the step up in class here in her stride and follow up.

3.15: Romanised Minstrel Stakes (Group 2)

4: Poet Master: A smart horse who continued his progression when winning on return at Newmarket in April leading from a furlong out coming home by a length. His next run in the Spring Trophy at Haydock probably came too soon after so his 5th place finish can be discounted and he is well worth another chance here.

4.20: Al Shira'aa Racing Meadow Court Stakes (Group 3)

4: Jackie Oh: A good filly who had an excellent 2023 culminating with a creditable 3rd in the Group 1 Fillies And Mares Stakes at Ascot in October. Despite being off 9 months she is the stand out on form and should take this on her return.

3.05: Barberstown Castle Sapphire Stakes (Group 2)

3: Believing: A smart filly who after winning a listed race at Haydock in May was a good 4th in a Group 1 over this races distance at Royal Ascot. She made headway from a furlong out running on well but not quite having the pace to mount a challenge. Despite that a repeat performance may be enough here back in calmer waters.

3.40: Juddmonte Irish Oaks (Group 1)

10: Port Fairy: A decent horse who has improved with each run culminating in a career best win in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot 30 days ago. She travelled well all the way leading inside the final furlong beating the reopposing Lava Stream by a neck. She can continue her good form here and achieve her biggest success to date.

6: Tower Of London: A good horse who after wins in Saudi Arabia and Dubai including a Group 2 at Meydan in March wasn’t seen at his best when fifth in the Yorkshire Cup on his last outing. That can be discounted and looking at the field he sets the standard and can bounce back here.

Leopardstown 6.50: Meld Stakes (Group 3)

5: Diego Velazquez: A smart horse who made a promising return when 4th at Longchamp in May but hasn't quite built on that since. He was 10th in the King Edward when last seen at Royal Ascot 27 days ago but going down in trip here and with conditions expected to suit he should get back on track with a 3rd career win.

7.45: Killarney Racegoers Club Handicap.

10: Mr Adjudicator: Has found the challenge of 3 miles too much in his last 3 starts including when finishing 8th behind Home By The Lee on his final start at Leopardstown back in December 2022. 10/7/24 Fairyhouse

Neither of Tuesday's tips ran after the meeting at Tramore was cancelled due to persistent rain. The conditions led to a pool of water forming three furlongs from the finish making the area unfit for racing. The meeting has yet to be rearranged.

Another week kicks off on Monday with 7 races at Roscommon where there are 2 features.

5.35: Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.

7: Midweek Voices: A fair hurdler who arrives here in good recent form. He was 2nd at Clonmel in April and then finished a creditable 4th at Ballinrobe when last seen 62 days ago. He tracked the leaders taking 4th approaching the last keeping on at one pace. He goes back up in trip here and should finally open his account.

6.38: Supervalu Co. Roscommon Ladies Day Novice Hurdle.

7: Rockstown Girl: A promising horse who picked up a career best win at Tipperary 54 days ago. She led for a second time 2 out asserting herself before the last and comfortably coming home by 3 lengths. With improvement likely she can follow up here.

A poor Saturday saw Red Evolution finish 4th at Naas in a race won by Shiota who beat Elzem by a head while at Bellewstown So Scottish was 5th with Petrol Head taking the contest beating Aeros Luck by 1 1/4 lengths.

8: Blanc De Noir: Has run well for a new yard this year and showed he is still in good form when 4th at Navan 29 days ago. He was 6th a furlong out improving to take 4th in the closing stages. The longer trip here should suit and with cheekpieces back on he can return to winning ways.

2: Instant Tendance: A good horse who didn't need to be at her best to win at Kilbeggan when last seen 20 days ago. 6/7/24 Naas & Bellewstown

An excellent Friday saw both my picks win. At Bellewstown The Road Is Long made all the running and despite being strongly pressed close to home the 1/1 favourite held on beating Heishybrid by a neck. At Cork Disco Dancer was 4th at halfway disputing the lead from 2 out, the 7/2 shot moved to the front approaching the last keeping on well to beat Sionnach Eile by 2 1/4 lengths.

The weekend begins with 7 races at Naas and 8 at Bellewstown on Saturday which includes 2 topping the bill.

Naas 2.45: Irish EBF Median Sires Series Race.

1: Red Evolution: A horse with a decent record who was a good second at Navan when last seen a month ago. He travelled well leading from a furlong out, he was strongly pressed only being passed in the final 50 yards and going down by a neck. He is the pick on form and with more to come he can take this.

Bellewstown 5.58: Bia Energy Bellewstown Handicap Hurdle.

4: So Scottish: A smart horse who was a respectable 4th at Listowel on his last outing 33 days ago. He was at the rear early improving and taking 4th two out staying on at one pace. He should be taken seriously here as he looks for another career win.

5/7/24 Bellewstown & Cork

Thursday's winner came at Bellewstown where Sugar Club led after 3 furlongs asserting herself soon after, she kept on strongly in the closing stages beating Luscious by 3 lengths. Over at Tipperary Daddy Long Legs was 5th in a race won by Winter Fog who beat Shecouldbeanything by a very easy 16 lengths.

Another double header on Friday sees 7 races at Bellewstown and 8 at Cork with 2 main events.

Bellewstown 4.40: Irish EBF Median Sires Series (C&G) Maiden.

6: The Road Is Long: Showed there was lots to work with when 8th on debut at Fairyhouse 3 weeks ago. He didn't get a clear run from a furlong out keeping on at one pace, he wasn't disgraced and going significantly up in trip here will suit. His yard is in good form and with improvement on the cards he can open his account.

Cork 5.05: Buy Tickets On www.corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle.

14: Disco Dancer: A promising horse who was a good third at Downpatrick when last seen 20 days ago, he was always prominent staying on well inside the final furlong. He definitely has more to offer and can pick up his 2nd career win here.

The 4/9 favourite challenged from 2 out leading soon after, she went clear inside the final furlong easily beating Gabriella's Spirit by 3 1/4 lengths. The other pick Treasure Isle was 10th in a race won by Usdi Atohi who beat Powerful Nation by a neck.

Thursday sees 8 races at Bellewstown and 7 at Tipperary with 2 highlights.

Bellewstown 4.25: Irish EBF Median Sires Series Fillies Maiden.

9: Sugar Club: A good-looking filly who was 3rd on debut at Leopardstown 3 weeks ago. She was 7th at halfway making headway early in the straight, she kept on well moving into 3rd in the final 150 yards. With that under her belt and improvement expected she can take this.

Tipperary 6.15: Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle (Grade 3)

1: Daddy Long Legs: Has impressed in recent starts including winning a listed handicap hurdle at Punchestown when last seen in April. He led from 2 out asserting himself before the last easily coming home by 5 lengths. He should take the step up to graded level here in his stride and complete a hat-trick.

If in similar form she is hard to look past here and should follow up.

Tipperary 2.03: Tipperary Town Plate Handicap Chase.

2: Great Bear: A decent horse who jumped well when 2nd at Punchestown 24 days ago. He rallied on the run-in staying on strongly just failing to reach the winner going down by a short head. That was his best performance in this sphere and he can build on that here going one better.

Roscommon 7.50: Watch Racing TV Irish EBF Lenebane Stakes.

4: Raise You: A smart horse who returned after a long absence to finish 4th behind White Birch in the Group 3 Alleged Stakes at The Curragh 73 days ago. That run showed he retains all his ability and he can take this back in listed company.
